I tell everyone during my free consultation that after a training session they should be smiling! That is a great way for me to see if that person will continue training!  
It works! If someone is constantly frowning during and immediately after a session, I know that this is only a “temporary desire” and not something they will embrace and want to continue! Heck, they don’t even want to be there in that moment! That’s how I felt when I was 12 years old and found a thing called “fitness”! Magical because until then I didn’t really feel in control of what happens to my body. I would see older folks say that they were feeling worse each year because of aging.  
They sounded as though there was nothing they could do about it. Hopeless, that’s the word! However, I started training my body at the age of 12 because a 16 year old bully was beating me up on the school bus and nobody seemed to care accept the kid getting beat down, imagine that. So it started as a self defense thing and ended up being a soul searching spiritual kind of thing with me understanding that I do have a choice of what goes on with the only thing I truly own, my mind and body! Oh, the bully stopped picking on me when he saw I was getting bigger and that his fate may not be so settled if he keeps beating on that 12 year old! Imagine that? The main thing to reaching and maintaining any goal is to keep moving forward. It is not to make super great gains!  
Sometimes folks start out way too fast and burn out and quit. What you want to do is to continue making some gains, sometimes fast and sometimes slower but always moving forward! I can’t tell you how many people I have seen make a “New Years Resolution” and go so hard but quit really fast! Imagine you wanted to loose 25 pounds. If you go crazy and only eat 500 calories a day(you were eating 2500/day) then you might lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks but you will be so weak and sick that you would go back to eating as much or more than before(I have seen this many times). Now, however, if you went from 2500 to 2000 calories a day then you would lose 1 pound a week and in less than 6 months you would have lost your 25 pounds but it wouldn’t have been so hard on you and you could actually continue eating 2000 calories a day after that if you would like because you would be used to it by then!
